The evil eye amulet, also known as a "nazar" or "mati," has a deep history dating back to ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome. The concept of the evil eye emerged from the belief that a malicious gaze, often driven by envy or ill will, could inflict harm, illness, or misfortune upon the person it targets. This belief was widespread across different cultures, leading to the development of protective measures to ward off the negative effects of the evil eye.

The amulet itself traditionally features a blue eye-shaped design, as blue was considered a protective color in ancient times, believed to repel the evil eye's harmful energy. In ancient Greece and Rome, it was thought that certain individuals could unintentionally curse others simply by looking at them, especially if they were envious. The amulet served as a shield, reflecting the negative energy back to its source.
